The Jewish Father:

-Feed the family with Kosher food.
-Make sure her husband and children have the right clothing.
-Prepare the home for the Shabbat and festivals.
-Teach her daughters what they need to know when they grow up.
In a more liberal Jewish family, the responsibility is equally shared between both the parents.
In the book, Color of Water, Ruth gives readers a similar feeling of this type of Family relationship. Her father was strict, making sure the kept to the Jewish faith and stayed away from non Jews who could corrupt them. Her mother was loving and an obedient wife.Despite her overall poor health-she could barely see out of one eye,had severe pains in her stomach that grew more and more painful over the years,"she could do more with one hand than i can do with two" said Ruth pg 41. Ruth's mother and father had an arranged marriage and were not lucky enough to find love together.
